OVERALL PERSONALITY:

Masato is, what others would call, an egotist. Everything he does revolves around making his perfect self stronger or the restoration of his disgraced family. Nothing else matters and everything else can be sacrificed to achieve this, his highly calculative mind has told him such. He does however dislike needless praise and as a result often ignores people who believe every single action deserves a pat on the back. His plans are often complicated, perhaps unnecessarily so, however they always achieve the same ends and sometimes even more than they originally hoped for.

This is something I cannot stress enough, despite Masato's killer fighting style and tremendous power, his mind considered one of the greatest in the known world. He has taken this to heart and now looks down on people with a lesser mental capacity, believing that no one can reach this level of calculative perfection except him, which gives him a claim to the title of Pirate King, the leader of the free world against anything that assails it.

Sure, he may be a bit cocky and arrogant, but his presence cannot be denied, people follow him without question simply from the way he commands respect. Even people who do not know who he is or what he is take his orders without question and fear his wrath if they do not. The people hail him as a hero whenever he visits, though no one really knows where his loyalties lie. He has been seen fighting Pirates and Marines alike, which has caused quite a stir. The truth is, he holds no true hatred for the ideals of the Marines, hell he'd be one if they weren't the people who shamed his family in the first place. As a result, he despises other pirates, but understands the value of keeping a crew, he cannot beat everyone on his own, no matter how perfect he is.

Uesugi Masato, considered to be the smartest Uesugi family member since Kenshin himself. His training as a member of the Main House and also as a successor to the leadership is highly evident in the way he moves and speaks, but highly contrasting to the way he dresses. He only has a small interest in keeping himself fit and healthy, but at the same time he does not hold any love for indulgence either, which shows in his overall appearance. His very noticeable height difference to the rest of his family makes him very stand-out in a crowd but also helps give a commanding stance when giving orders. His voice is rather deep but also very smooth, again a result of his political training as a successor to the Uesugi family, however it does have quite a commanding aspect to it and a rough tone when shouting.

His facial features, while rather youthful in appearance, still command a great amount of respect from those he leads and inspires fear into his targets. To the female population he is considered very attractive, though he has no time for such vanity. His striking jade blue eyes speak of a wise demeanor, showing hardships and yet also glowing with intensity, an unique energy and passion not seen in his other features. His eyes change color when angered or feeling intense emotion, going from their original piercing blue to a warm, soft brown, almost soothing, a reflection of his true soul, something he would never admit. His hair, like all members of the Uesugi family again is a dark color, many mistaking it for black, when it is in fact a deep brown. It's messy style suggests a man with no time for his own appearance, letting it fall about his face, only occasionally combing it and when he does so, it's usually only for political meetings or important events.

His body type would be described as slender and yet with an innate power in the arms and legs. The power in his limbs is often overlooked due to the fact that they really don't seem that muscular, but considering he has enough strength in one leg to send himself rather high into the air, a basis for most of his advanced techniques, he is surprisingly powerful. However, the main aspect of his physical ability really comes through in his speed and flexibility, both of which are key parts of his fighting style.

Masato's clothing style is rather simple, consisting of a simple cloth white shirt, made to the utmost quality of the Uesugi's best tailors yet also rough enough for travel and battle. The reason he has such an item of light clothing is to conserve as much energy as physically possible, due to the fact that he has to carry eight shortswords and their sheath.

Of course, wearing only a shirt would be rather silly, especially in colder climates, so Masato wears a pair of charcoal-colored slacks tucked into a pair of lightweight leather boots colored a deep jet black. The material and style of these items of clothing are much more rough and unrefined than the shirt, designed for ease of movement and lightness rather than in any way protective.

Over this, his signature black cloak is worn, with the ominous black hood and tattered edges, worn from the many battles it's been a part of. Masato refuses to repair it, simply because he believes it should carry the scars of his family's lost reputation and anything lost along the way as a tribute to his sacrifices, so that they are never forgotten, forgiven or given any sort of forlorn. The cloak itself buttons at the front and extends well past his knees, around half way down his shins.

And to top it all off, Masato wears his eight sword sheath on his back, with a leather strap across the front, an elegant silver buckle securing it in place like a quiver of arrows. Occasionally he also wears a pair of gripped black and grey fingerless gloves in order to achieve better grip on his swords or allow for greater climbing ability, protecting his hands.

FIGHTING STYLE:

Masato's fighting style is very much unique, even if compared to Devil Fruit users. You see, Masato has a total of eight identical blades and his fighting style includes all eight. Of course, he may use less if needed, but his main fighting prowess requires every single one, hence it's name of Hachinagimon.

The way he fights is very much unique, striking from almost every conceivable direction, making it virtually impossible for the target or even an outside viewer to see every single movement of every single blade or indeed predict his next attack. It requires a great amount of athleticism, utilizing hand-stands, flips and dodges that would break an ordinary man's bones.

Despite the style's outward appearance of being very chaotic and complex, it does require a very calm and controlled mind, capable of making split-second decisions and planning not one, not two, not even three steps ahead, but four, five, planning for every single movement the target could possibly make. As a result, it is incredibly difficult to learn and it could quite possibly be entirely unique to Masato.

Hachidantō | Eight Severswords

Masato's eight swords are very much unique and could even be considered controversial of the typical sword shape, probably even being considered more a double-edge knife than a sword. The blade in fact tapers to a point similar to a western-style arming sword, however it is in fact only around two feet in length from pommel to tip, featuring no tsuba whatsoever and a rather basic red-wrapped hilt with a brass pommel. The characteristic shape of the Hachidantō not only make them ideal for cutting, using either edge of the blade, but also means they can be thrown with great accuracy. They are often concealed in their red wine-colored sheaths located on Masato's back.
